DENNIS ZHU
Founder, Bsc
Dennis Zhu has a background in biomedical and nutriceutical sciences at the University of Guelph. He is an avid grower of carnivorous plants and leads propogation of rare and interesting plants at the University’s tissue culture facility.
DR. MAX JONES
Science Advisor, PhD
Dr. Max Jones is a professor at the University of Guelph and a faculty member in the Gosling Research Institute for Plant Preservation (GRIPP). He specializes in plant cell culture and completed his PhD at the University of British Columbia.
OUR ROOTS
Founded at the University of Guelph, our mission is to diversify the world of houseplants. We are empowering people to easily grow rare and extraordinary plants around the house by creating next generation terrariums.
We started with the intention of preserving plants through tissue culture at our lab however, we quickly realized that there were more applications for this science. Tissue culture allowed us to grow expert-level plants while not being expert-level caregivers.
Starting from 2018, we extensively tested our products in the worst possible growing environments: dark basements, washrooms, and dorm rooms. Magically, all our plants grew.
Then in 2019, we assembled a team of Canadian designers, scientists, and plant hobbyists to create our company.
