What is Living Glass?
Living Glass is a way to grow exotic plants without investing in a dedicated setup.
We use cell culture science to enable the world to grow exotic plants indoors in practically any condition.
Our plants do not require bright light or watering to grow and thrive.
Why Living Glass?
With over 500,000 species of plants in nature, less than 1% of those plants can be grown as house plants.
Many plants require high humidity, bright light, and ample space to grow, conditions that we cannot replicate in our home environment.
Our products allow you to grow exceptionally unique and exciting plants without recreating their natural environments at home. Being fully self-sufficient, we're empowering you to grow botanical gems without any care requirements.
What’s the gel made of?
We use a mix of fertilizer, sugars, and, gelling agents to create our plant-sustaining gels. Our gels are environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and, vegan.
The fertilizer is a special blend of nitrogen/phosphorus/potassium and trace minerals that serve as essential nutrients to optimal plant metabolism.
The sugar is purified sucrose which serves as the main “food” for the plants. This is why our plants perform extremely well under low-light conditions.
The gelling agent is a high molecular weight polysaccharide gel derived from bacteria. The formulation we use is Phytagel™, developed by Sigma-Aldrich. Compared to animal-based gels (gelatin) or wild-harvested gels (agar, carrageenan), Phytagel™ has superior clarity. You’ll get 100% visibility of plants growing in this gel, enabling you to watch root-zone structures grow.
How is it made?
Our glass starts off in China, where it is meticulously hand blown by master craftsman. We use borosilicate glass — the same type of glass used in laboratory glassware.
Afterwards, our team in Canada brews our gels and assembles each product by hand. We grow the plants we use under ultra-sustainable, indoor vertical farms.
It is paramount that Living Glass is created under sterile environments and with sterile plants. Every step of production requires us to maintain sterile field and use sterilized tools.

Who do we support?
We support students.
We employ students from Universities across Canada to gain valuable experiences in their field of study. Our graphic designs, business operations, and plant production are partially contributed by talented Canadian students.
We enrich student education by providing free Living Glass as educational tools for their classrooms. We’ve co-sponsored an educational event with the World Wildlife Fund to support a University of Guelph project (click here).
We support conservation.
We believe that commercialization is the way to bring awareness to endangered species and save them from complete extinction. That’s why for every species we use in our products — we will add it to our plant collection and grow them forever (even if our product is discontinued).
